The Rector’s Ramblings April 2022
I am sure that you, like me have watched news reports of the Ukrainian war with horror and disbelief. The plight of the Ukrainian people is heart-breaking. As a church we have sent a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee, and individually many have responded themselves with compassion to this ongoing situation. The dignified, brave Ukrainians, those ministering to them as refugees and those remaining in Ukraine remain in our prayers. Proceeds from the church stall at the Spring Fair in April will also be donated to the fund.
As spring advances and we look forward to the promise of warmer weather and brighter days, perhaps we can all be forgiven for feeling that the world is a darker place. Together with the projected increase in living costs and the remaining threat of Covid still evident, 2022 seems to be yet another year of concern. So how on earth do we live with worry, uncertainty, and the feeling of utter helplessness in the face of such suffering?
Firstly, donate to the DEC or another trustworthy charity if you can. Or join us in praying for Ukraine and its people wherever you are, whenever you can.
At Easter we remember that an innocent man was brutally put to death at the hands of a regime who ruled by violence and fear. Jesus willingly gave his life for us all as he spurned the use of force, but demonstrated compassion and love, even on the cross. As we celebrate his resurrection and hear his call to believe in him, to recognise our own failures, but know the forgiveness of God, let us do what we can for those in need. We cannot change the world individually, but together we can make a difference.
