Plough Sunday at Monkokehampton

  • The Church in Monkokehampton had asked us if Alan’s Man-Barn could be used for their Plough Sunday Service on Sunday 15th January. We had never been to a Plough Service before but readily accepted the challenge and duly prepared our Barn with a Fergie Tractor borrowed from our friend John Hancock, Alan made a rustic Cross and a Lectern for Revd. Susan to put her Bible and Sermon on, we decorated the Barn with twinkly lights and all sorts of rustic tools including Alan’s father’s antique Scythe.

John Pearce provided a John Deere Tractor with Plough attached which stood outside so we were ready to go !

We had no idea how many might attend and were mightily pleased to see nearly 60 folk arrive from Iddesleigh, Dolton, Dowland & Winkleigh – luckily we had enough chairs to accommodate them all !

The simple service included us all going outside so that Revd. Susan could “Bless the Plough” and afterwards everyone enjoyed the enormous array of delicious sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes provided by the Monko ladies – and it was a great happy party ! Thanks to all who provided the goodies and thanks, too, to all who attended.
